The international Welsh Poetry Competition (2007-2026) has hung up its boots after twenty very successful years.

Thank you to everyone who supported us. We got entries from over forty-five countries around the world (Abu Dhabi, Argentina, Australia, Bahrain, Belgium, Canada, China, Colombia, Corfu, Denmark, England, Finland, France, India, Ireland, Italy, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Israel, Japan, Kenya, Kuwait, Luxembourg, Netherlands, New Zealand, Nigeria, Pakistan, Peru, Poland, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Romania, Scotland, Singapore, Slovakia, South Korea, Spain, Swaziland, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, Trinidad & Tobago, USA and Vietnam, as well as Wales, of course). We had several winners from Wales, with the remaining awards going to poets from elsewhere in the UK, Australia and Canada. Looking at our website history, we had 63,500 hits last year and got 2.531,883 hits (page impressions) since we started monitoring statistics.

This blog post is just to inform everyone that we shall be continuing our work, promoting poetry in Wales and around the world. We hope to bring you news, book updates and events and will try to post something at least once a month.

We’ve removed some of the old pages from the website, but all the winners from 2007 to 2026 are still there, with the original judges’ comments. We have also created a new page with a Winners List.

Although this contest has finished, we are working hard behind the scenes to launch a bigger and better poetry book competition in 2027. We hope to have exciting news about Maya Poetry Book Awards soon…

Our fabulous anthologies are available for sale on Amazon. We have four to collect, he winks, knowingly…

We still have our newsletter too.
